DISCOVER FUN THINGS TO DO IN THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS

Extend your trip to the Snowy Mountains after the Oceania Cross Tri to experience all this amazing region has to offer.

Summer is a great time to escape the heat and head to the Snowy Mountains where you'll find a kaleidoscope of colour, Australia's highest point and breath-taking alpine scenery.

Go bushwalking or hiking in Kosciuszko National Park. With glacial lakes, alpine meadows, snow gum forests and Australia's highest mountain, Mt Kosciuszko, bushwalking here is truly inspiring. The hike to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko is regarded as one of Australia's best one-day walks. Start from the top of the chairlift at Thredbo or from Charlotte Pass.

Explore the historic towns and villages of Cooma, Dalgety, Nimmitabel and Tumbarumba on foot. Walk part of the 12 km Hume and Hovell Track to Tumbarumba Creek, or stroll along the 2 km path beside the Tumut River and past the pretty Riverglade Wetlands.

Mountain bike enthusiasts can hurtle down the challenging Thredbo Downhill. More leisurely trails are plentiful with tracks around Thredbo village, Perisher, Lake Jindabyne, Lake Eucumbene, Tumut, Cooma and Tumbarumba.

High country horseriding is also a thrill for beginners and experienced riders. Guided horse treks are popular for day trips, overnight or longer.

Throw a line into the crystal clear waters of a lake or quiet stream and discover the fun of fishing in the Snowy Mountains' pristine environment.

CROSS TRIATHLON COURSE

OCEANIA CHAMPIONSHIPS 1500-30-10

VIEW OCEANIA CHAMPS CROSS-TRI MAP

Swim: 1500m (2 x 750m lap)
Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa is situation on beautiful Lake Crackenback. Starting from the beach, swimmers will complete 2 x 750m laps of the lake.

Mountain Bike: 30km (2 x 15km laps)
The Mountain Bike Course is a 15km lap. Champs competitors complete 2 laps of the course, passing through Race HQ at the end of each lap.

Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s mountain bike tracks encompass 2 alpine lakes, Thredbo River, Kosciuszko National Park and spectacular views of the Thredbo Valley and Ram’s Head Range. The resort’s mountain bike facilities rate with the very best in the nation, highlighted with sculpted flowing single track and the Caroline Buchannan Mountain Bike Park.

The course comprises approx 80% grippy, flowing single track.  It also includes rocky paths, bridges, rock gardens and creek crosings which will require some technical skills to tackle effectively.

A large proportion of Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s mountain bike trails are undulating fast sections of flowing single track providing very little rest bite for the legs which will be pumping all the way. The trails will advantage both technically skilled riders who will be able to carry speed through the tight terrain but strong riders will be able to make up time grinding out the open sections with small pitches and hills. We anticipate some very fast times but we also expect all contestants to experience the most enjoyable and spectacular riding found anywhere in Australia.

Trail Run : 10km (3 x 3.3km laps)
The course is a 3.3km lap. Champs Competitors will complete 3 x 3.3km Laps before finishing at Race HQ.

This will be one of the most spectacular and challenging trail run courses of the Series (for those of you who like to admire the scenery as well). But don't be lulled into a false sense of security, this is no walk in the park. This course is a true trail run where runners will go off road, traverse the banks of the Little Thredbo River and the Snowy Mountains before heading for the finish line.

The trail run includes a few surprises and challenges including creek crossings, a river run, suspension bridge, obstacles, rock scrambles and some true off road terrain.

This is an OFF ROAD triathlon, expect to get wet, muddy & dirty.

SPRINT DISTANCE COURSE INFO: 500-15-5

VIEW SPRINT TRI MAP

Swim: 500m (1 x 500m laps)
Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa is situation on beautiful Lake Crackenback. Starting from the beach, swimmers will complete 1 x 500m laps of the lake.

Mountain Bike: 15km (2 x 7.5km lap)
Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s 20 kilometres of mountain bike tracks encompass 2 alpine lakes, Thredbo River and Kosciuszko National Park all spectacular views of the Thredbo Valley and Ram’s Head Range. The resort’s mountain bike facilities rate with the very best in the nation, highlighted with sculpted flowing single track and the Caroline Buchannan Mountain Bike Park.

The Sprint Distance is a 15km lap with about 80% of the course made up of grippy, flowing single track.  It also includes some rocky paths, bridges and rollovers which will require some technical skills to tackle effectively.

Trail Run : 5km (2 x 2.5km laps)
The course is a 5km lap. Sprint Distance Competitors will complete 2 x 2.5km Lap before finishing at Race HQ.

The trail run includes a few surprises and challenges including creek crossings, a river run, suspension bridge, obstacles, rock scrambles in some true off road terrain.

This is an OFF ROAD triathlon, expect to get wet, muddy & dirty.

About the Course

This will be one of the most spectacular and challenging trail run courses in Australia coupled with some of the most amazing scenery that only Australia's Snowy Mountains can deliver.

But don't be lulled into a false sense of security, this is no walk in the park. This course is a true trail run where runners will go off road, traverse the banks of the Little Thredbo River before heading for the finish line.

After departing Race HQ runners will trackle the twists, turns, pinchy climbs and rock scrambles amongst the resorts walking trails. This section of the run also includes a heart pumping river run before scrambling up the banks and heading towards the Little Thredbo River crossing.

From here the scenery takes a turn as the run traverses the undulating trails along the Little Thredbo River with Mt Kosciuszko as the back drop. From here it's time to hit the excelerator as we head for home towards the finish line at Race HQ which will be a welcome site after a long, hard, tough and spectacularly beautiful off road trail run.

This is an OFF ROAD trail run, expect to get wet, muddy & dirt.
