BRENDAN DAVIES

Brendan Davies has represented Australia four times across a range of disciplines including road, mountain and trail running. His other great honour was to be named by his ultra running peers and the governing body of ultra running in Australia - AURA as the 2012 Australian Ultra Runner of the Year. A dream of Brendan's was to win The North Face 100 which he not only won this year but also set a new course record of 9 hours 16 minutes 12 seconds which is a huge achievement.

Brendan is currently part of the Inov-8 International Trail Running Team, a great honour, which has seen him travel abroad to Europe and Asia competing against the world's best in the SkyRunning Series. His international highlight so far this year was finishing 5th in a world class field in the incredibidly tough 100 mile Ultra Trail Mt Fuji (UTMF) in Japan. Brendan hopes to grow on this international experience and his big goals in 2014 will be focused on the international scene.

Brendan has recently expanded his 'running horizons', sideways if anything, and has started to grow his coaching business – ‘UP Coaching’. He loves to share what he's learned and seeing others succeed gives him a great deal of joy. UP actually stands for ‘Unleashing Potential’ and this is what he's all about! Brendan is very excited about the growth of trail and ultra running and when his individual career winds down, he hopes to be very much a part of it in through coaching and in a race directing capacity. In the meantime, Brendan is very excited to be named with Hanny as a trail running ambassador for Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa. In this capacity, he says he will aim to give all clients the best experience that he can offer; passing on his knowledge and skills of trail running and aiming to equip you with the best possible advice to take with you on your own personal trail running journey.

CROSS TRIATHLON COURSE

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 1500-30-10

Swim: 1500m (2 x 750m lap)
Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa is situation on beautiful Lake Crackenback. Starting from the beach, swimmers will complete 2 x 750m laps of the lake.

Mountain Bike: 30km (2 x 15km laps)
The Mountain Bike Course is a 15km lap. Australian Champs competitors complete 2 laps of the course, passing through Race HQ at the end of each lap.

Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s mountain bike tracks encompass 2 alpine lakes, Thredbo River, Kosciuszko National Park and spectacular views of the Thredbo Valley and Ram’s Head Range. The resort’s mountain bike facilities rate with the very best in the nation, highlighted with sculpted flowing single track and the Caroline Buchannan Mountain Bike Park.

The course comprises approx 80% grippy, flowing single track.  It also includes rocky paths, bridges, rock gardens and creek crosings which will require some technical skills to tackle effectively.

A large proportion of Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s mountain bike trails are undulating fast sections of flowing single track providing very little rest bite for the legs which will be pumping all the way. The trails will advantage both technically skilled riders who will be able to carry speed through the tight terrain but strong riders will be able to make up time grinding out the open sections with small pitches and hills. We anticipate some very fast times but we also expect all contestants to experience the most enjoyable and spectacular riding found anywhere in Australia.

Trail Run : 10km (4 x 2.5km laps)
The course is a 5km lap. Australian Champs Competitors will complete 4 x 2.5km Laps before finishing at Race HQ.

This will be one of the most spectacular and challenging trail run courses of the Series (for those of you who like to admire the scenery as well). But don't be lulled into a false sense of security, this is no walk in the park. This course is a true trail run where runners will go off road, traverse the banks of the Little Thredbo River and the Snowy Mountains before heading for the finish line.

The trail run includes a few surprises and challenges including creek crossings, a river run, suspension bridge, obstacles, rock scrambles in some true off road terrain.

This is an OFF ROAD triathlon, expect to get wet, muddy & dirty.

The course is suitable for beginners and younger participants it includes about 80% of grippy, flowing single track wiht a few rocky trails, bridges and rollovers.

About the XC MTB Course

With some of the best riding in Australia, Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa’s mountain bike trails encompass 2 alpine lakes, Thredbo River, Kosciuszko National Park and spectacular views of the Thredbo Valley and Ram’s Head Range. The resort’s mountain bike facilities rate with the very best in the nation, highlighted with sculpted flowing single track and the Caroline Buchannan Mountain Bike Park.

The course includes a 15km clockwise lap which takes in the beautiful flowing berms and switchbacks on the trails heading out of the resort, then crossing the Little Thredbo River into the Naitonal Park and the Muzzelwood Trail.

After passing the diggings the course then takes in the all new river trail, with some fun techninal sections before returning back to the Little Thredbo River where we take a left along the picturesque flowing single track following the twists, turns and contours along the waters edge before returning via the resorts MTB trails back to Race HQ.

About the TRAIL RUN Course

This will be one of the most spectacular and challenging trail run courses in Australia coupled with some of the most amazing scenery that only Australia's Snowy Mountains can deliver.

But don't be lulled into a false sense of security, this is no walk in the park. This course is a true trail run where runners will go off road, traverse the banks of the Little Thredbo River and the Snowy Mountains before heading for the finish line.

The Half Marathon Course includes two laps including 1 x 10km lap and 1 x 11.1km lap. 10km runners will complete Lap 1 only and 5k runners will take a turn at the Little Thredbo River.

Lap 1 (10km)

After departing Race HQ runners will trackle the twists, turns, pinchy climbs and rock scrambles amongst the resorts walking trails. This section of the run also includes a heart pumping river run before scrambling up the banks and heading towards the Little Thredbo River crossing. From here we traverse along the picturesque flowing trails following the twists, turns and contours along the waters edge before returning via the resorts trails back to Race HQ.

Lap 2 (11.1km)

After passing through Race HQ with loads of encouragement from friends and family the trail run course throws up a few new surprises with a creek crossing, obstacles, scrambles and the resorts suspension bridge. Then it's back on the resorts walking trails, this time to cross the Little Thredbo River and into Kosiosko National Park to take in the flowing single track before arriving at the Diggings and following some all new trails back to the Little Thredbo River.

From here it's time to hit the excelerator as we head for home towards the finish line at Race HQ which will be a welcome site after a long, hard, tough and spectacularly beautiful off road trail run.

This is an OFF ROAD trail run, expect to get wet, muddy & dirt.
