The Qld Series kicks off with what is one of the most demanding events of the series. The Long course competitors take on a tough new course including an all new 10km MTB lap at at Murrenbong Scout Camp .

The event is on the north side of Brisbane, not far from Petrie and takes approximately 30-45 minutes travel time from the Brisbane CBD.

HOW TO GET THERE

From the North

  • Turn off the Bruce Hwy onto Anzac Avenue
  • Follow Anzac Avenue into Petrie.
  • Turn right onto Dayboro Rd.
  • Carry on past North Pine Country Park.
  • After Circuit Rd on the Right, take the next right onto Scout Rd.
  • After approximately 2.5km GO PAST Gate 1 at Murrenbong Scout Camp.
  • After approximately 800m turn left into GATE 2 at Murrenbong Scout Camp.
  • Follow the dirt track up the hill.
  • At the top of the hill continue straight, along the track to HQ. 
  • Park in the open grassy area where directed by officials.

From the South

  • Heading  North on Gympie Rd, at Anzac Avenue, take the Dayboro Rd turn.
  • Carry on Dayboro Rd past North Pine Country Park.
  • After Circuit Rd on the Right, take the next right onto Scout Rd.

IMPORTANT: The road within the scout camp is a single dirt track and there are some ruts and muddy patches.  The speed limit is 20km per hour.  Please take care when driving and be aware of possible oncoming traffic.

LONG COURSE
6km Trail Run - 20km MTB - 3km Trail Run

Long Course Mountain Bike: 20km (2 x 10km Laps)
The Duathlon Mountain Bike Course will include some all new tracks and trails different from the triathlon series and includes Fire Trails, Flowing Single Track, some creek crossings, sections of technical single track and some short, sharp inclines. The course is rated easy to medium in technical difficulty which makes is suitable for all skill levels.

Long Course Trail Run: 6km (2 x 3km Laps) + 3km (1 x 3km Lap)
The Duathlon Run Course has all the mud, dirt, climbs, water crossings and some all new surprises from the Triathlon Course. The lap includes trails, tracks, cross country and creek crossings.

SHORT COURSE
3km Trail Run - 10km MTB - 1km Trail Run

Short Course Mountain Bike: 10km (1 x 10km Lap)
The Duathlon Mountain Bike Course will include some all new tracks and trails different from the triathlon series and includes Fire Trails, Flowing Single Track, some creek crossings, sections of technical single track and some short, sharp inclines. The Duathlon Teaser Mountain Bike Course includes fire trails and some flowing single track and is suitable for young riders and beginners.

Teaser Course Trail Run: 1km (1 x 1km Lap) + 500m (1 x 500m Lap)
The Duathlon Teaser Run Course has all the mud, dirt and some all new surprises from the Triathlon Course. The lap includes trails, tracks and cross country.

RACE HQ

Race HQ is based at the Day Use Area at Murrenbong Dam.  Please park where directed by officials in the open grassy area.  Spectators have a great view of the event from Race HQ. The mountain bike leg passes through Race HQ twice and the run leg finishes here. Spectators are asked not to go in or around the Transition Area.

FACILITIES

There are limited facilities at Race HQ.

 IMPORTANT! THERE IS NO WATER so please bring enough water for before, during and after the event.  A drinks station will be provided on the run leg, and at the finish of the race for competitors.

Facilities at Race HQ Include:

  • Sausage Sizzle
  • Tarry & the Jungle Bean Cofee Van
  • Flush Toilets
  • There is NO water at Race HQ so please bring enough to last you for before, during and after the event.
  • The Scouts will be selling cold drinks with all proceeds going to the Scouts

PARKING

Parking is in an open grassy area near Race HQ.  Please park where directed by officials.

Area 1 Parking: NO Vehicle Departure during event

Area 2 Parking: Vehicles may Depart during the event except between 11:45 and 1pm when the road is closed.

Road Closed from 11:45am to 1pm

The road to and from Race HQ will be closed from 11:45am to approximately 1pm. No vehicles may enter of leave Race HQ during this time. Any vehicles arriving during this time may park at the 'Early Departure' Car Park Area which is located near the pilons at the top of the hill from gate to and walk approx 400m to Race HQ.

Early Departure Car Park Area

If vehicles are required to depart during the time the road is closed then you may park in the 'Early Departure Car Park ' located near the pilons at the top of the hill after driving in through Gate 2. There is approx a 400m walk to Race HQ from here.

  09:10 Transition Area Closes - Important Note: The Transition Area will be cleared at this time. You must have placed your equipment and cleared the area. If you arrive at Transition at 9:10am you will not be permitted to enter. Anyone who has not placed their bike & equipment in the Transition Area by this time will not be able to take part in the event. This will be enforced as it is a Triathlon Australia safety and regulatory requirement that the Transition is free from competitors before the start of the event and all participants are required to attend the pre-race brief.

RACE & SAFETY BRIEFING

A Pre-race safety brief will be held at Race HQ for competitors at 09:10am.  It's important that all competitors attend this brief as it covers important information regarding the course, course changes and your safety on the course.

Other waves will commence at intervals after this time. Check at Race HQ for your wave, and your start time and please ensure you are at the start, ready to go when called. You don't want to miss your start and have to chase down the rest of the pack!

The Long Course and Short Course Trail Run will start from under the FInish Shute at Race HQ. The Teaser trail run will start on the road near Race HQ.

CAMPING & ACCOMMODATION

Overnight camping and basic accommodation are available at Murrenbong Scout Camp. Please contact the Camp Manager to book.

Accommodation: Pack Shelter
The Pack Shelter is shared accommodation with bunk beds and includes the use of the shower & toilet block as well as kitchen facilities, fridges and gas cookers. Rooms and facilities are to be cleaned by participants prior to departure.

Cost is $13.30 per person per night ($12 + GST). Bookings essential

Camping
Camping is available on site for a fee of $6.60 per person per night.
